Video games have been a source of inspiration for most filmmakers. Aside from their exciting storylines, these games already have a fanbase to start with. Let’s take a look at these upcoming video-game based movies:
Assassin’s Creed
It took the world by storm when Ubisoft announced that their biggest franchise, Assassin’s Creed is going to have a film adaption. To be released on December 16, 2016, the live-action film will star Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a modern-day man who happens to be the descendant of a known assassin from the 15th century. Through an advanced machine, Callum must relive his ancestor’s memories to stop a threat from happening in the present. Ubisoft has teamed up with 20th Century Fox and New Regency to bring the game to the big screen.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
The Resident Evil film series has become one of the few successful video game movies in the industry. Its latest film, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is set to be released on December 23, 2016. Starring Milla Jovovich as Alice, the movie’s storyline will take place after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution. Alice along with her old friend and allies must go back to Raccoon City where it all started. This time, though, they must finally put an end to Umbrella Corporation and stop its impending attack. Will they be able to survive the horde of monsters and zombies?
The Last of Us
It was in 2014 when Naughty Dog announced that a film of Last of Us will be made. According to the co-Presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, American film director, Sam Raimi will produce it. It was also said that the movie will be based on the game’s storyline. Despite the project’s lack of progress, there have been rumors that Game of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams will take the role of Ellie.
Tomb Raider Reboot
The Tomb Raider film franchise will be having a reboot. This time, though they will feature a new actress and a new storyline. It was announced last April that “The Danish Girl” star Alicia Vikander will take the lead role and play as Lara Croft. The new movie will focus on a young Lara Croft going on her first archaeological expedition. Its production and development is under GK Films and MGM films and is set to be released on 2018.
BioShock
It was in 2009 when its developers announced that a BioShock will be released on 2011. However, due to problems and lack of progress, the film was canceled. However, in 2014, Sony registered three domain names including bioshock-movie.com, bioshock-movie.net, and bio-shock.net. Its creator Ken Levine, on the other hand, said that the project may still happen although it should have “the right combination of people” for it to be a success.
