Oldies but goodies! These games may have been released about 18 years ago, but we can’t deny that they have held a particular spot in our hearts. Let’s take a trip down to memory lane, and once again glorify these classic games we all have loved.

Counter Strike

Counter Strike was first released on June 19, 1999. It is a multiplayer first-person shooter game, where players can take the role of terrorists or counter-terrorists. Counter-Strike is a modification for Half-Life until it was acquired by Valve on 2000. The game has a fast-paced and team-oriented gameplay, wherein two teams, the Terrorists, and the Counter-Terrorists must fight to complete an object or kill all the members of the opposing team within a time limit.

StarCraft

StarCraft is a military science-fiction game that was released in 1998. The game was so successful that it spawned a franchise of its own. StarCraft features a real-time strategy gameplay where the player acts as a commander of one of the three species available in the game: Protoss, Terrans, and Zerg. It is one of the best-selling games for personal computers and gaming laptops. It was praised several times as one of the best games ever made in history.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2

Command & Conquer: GamePro described Red Alert 2 as “the best real-time 2D strategy game since StarCraft.” Similar to the said game, Red Alert 2 lets the player take control of an army of two playable factions: the Soviets and the Allies. The game has two separate campaigns with distinct storylines, one for each playable faction. The game was released for Microsoft computers and gaming laptops in October 2000.

Yuri’s Revenge

Yuri’s Revenge is an expansion pack made for Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2. Unlike the Red Alert 2, the game focuses on the story of the ex-Soviet figure known as Yuri, who has established his army to take over the world with the use of his Psychic Dominators. The objective of the game is for the player to build his army to defend his base and attack his enemies. The game was released in October 2001.

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2

Roller Coaster 2 is a construction and management simulation PC game that was developed by Chris Sawyer. The game is the most successful game in the series and was well-received by its fans. The primary objective of the game is for the player to manage an amusement park and complete the scenarios given. Players can build attractions such as roller coasters, water rides, thrill rides, and shops or stalls. It was released in October 2012.

Diablo 2

Diablo 2 is an action RPG game that was published by Blizzard and was released on 2000. It is known for its dark fantasy and horror themes, which gave way to its popularity. Players are allowed to choose one of the five character classes including Amazon, Barbarian, Necromancer, Paladin, and Sorceress. Like other RPG games, players must complete quests and defeat monsters to level up.

Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne

WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne is the expansion pack for  Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. Like its predecessors, the game offers the same gameplay but includes two new auxiliary races and queue upgrades. But what made Frozen Throne more famous is its multiplayer online battle arena mod known as DotA or Defense of the Ancients. The developer of DotA was later hired by Valve and created its sequel we all know by now as DotA 2.
